Project Hamburg Research

Open research discovery, curated and explained

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit democratizing ethical AI to advance open science access, multilingual discovery, research literacy, and citation integrity. Empowering marginalized, racialized, and minority communities worldwide.

Our Mission

Project Hamburg Research exists to democratize ethical artificial intelligence in service of research advancement, educational equity, and community empowerment. We operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down systemic barriers that prevent marginalized, racialized, and minority communities from accessing and contributing to the global research ecosystem.

In an era of widespread misinformation and unequal access to knowledge, we provide objective, high-quality research tools that connect real-world issues—from politics and public health to climate change—with peer-reviewed academic insights. Our work spans North America and extends globally, ensuring that language barriers, institutional affiliation, and socioeconomic status do not determine who can discover, understand, and contribute to scientific knowledge.

Through our flagship platform MapleScholar, comprehensive journal submission support, rigorous academic integrity services, and accessible AI education workshops, we are building a more equitable research landscape where every voice can be heard, every community can benefit from scientific progress, and every researcher—regardless of background—has the opportunity to advance human knowledge.

Journal Submission Support

Empowering under-resourced researchers to publish their work and contribute to the global knowledge base. We provide comprehensive support for scholars who face systemic barriers to academic publication.

Target Audience: Non-English speakers, researchers at small institutions, self-taught scholars, and academics in the Global South who possess valuable insights but lack traditional publishing infrastructure.

Goal: Increase diversity in published research by ensuring that academic merit, not institutional privilege, determines whose research reaches the world. Our human-expert support team assists with manuscript preparation, journal selection, submission processes, and editorial correspondence.

Academic Integrity & AI Forensics

Rigorous, human-centered verification services for high-stakes academic research. Unlike automated AI detection tools, we employ expert reviewers who understand the nuanced relationship between legitimate AI assistance and academic integrity.

Focus: PhD dissertations and select Master's theses—work that requires deep, careful analysis rather than bulk processing. We partner with dissertation review boards and university integrity committees to provide authoritative assessments.

Approach: Human-in-the-loop methodology combining AI forensics with expert scholarly judgment. We distinguish between acceptable editing assistance and problematic content generation, ensuring fair, defensible conclusions that protect both students and academic standards.

Communities Worldwide

Democratizing access to research that affects daily lives

Why It Matters

We live in an era of unprecedented misinformation and unequal access to knowledge. While research on critical issues—climate change, public health, economic policy, social justice—exists in academic journals, systemic barriers prevent the very communities most affected by these issues from accessing or contributing to that knowledge.

Language barriers, institutional gatekeeping, and lack of resources create a research ecosystem where perspectives from marginalized communities are systematically underrepresented. This isn't just unfair—it's scientifically detrimental. The best solutions to global challenges come from diverse voices and lived experiences.

By democratizing access to research and empowering under-resourced scholars to publish their work, we're not just promoting equity—we're strengthening the entire global research enterprise. When everyone can participate in the creation and consumption of knowledge, we all benefit from better science, better policy, and better solutions to the challenges we face together.

Research & Education Initiatives

Beyond our core programs, we advance AI research and provide accessible education

RAG URL Protocol

Our research into Socratic questioning frameworks for AI systems. The RAG URL Protocol separates AI reasoning from information retrieval, enabling more accurate, transparent, and verifiable research processes.

Instead of having a single AI system both formulate questions and search for answers, we create a separation of concerns—the AI generates questions, external authoritative sources provide answers, and then the AI synthesizes findings. This approach reduces hallucination and improves citation accuracy in academic contexts.

AI Education Workshops

Accessible training programs teaching responsible AI use from beginner to advanced levels. Our philosophy: "We want you to use AI correctly"—education over punishment.

Beginner: Students learn how to use AI for literature reviews, argument checking, and study preparation without compromising academic integrity.

Advanced: Researchers learn rubric creation and prompt engineering for complex research tasks, including our past workshop "How to Talk to AI So It Actually Helps You Study."
